We ONLY scored from a corner!!!

TRANSFER GOSSIP
Tottenham have opened talks with Manchester City over an £8m permanent move for on-loan striker Emmanuel Adebayor, 27.

Another target for Spurs is Wigan forward Hugo Rodallega, 26, who could play against Tottenham on Tuesday evening and then sign for them before the deadline.

Spurs face competition from London rivals Queens Park Rangers for Rodallega's signature. (The Times; subscription required)

But striker Roman Pavlyuchenko's future at Tottenham is in doubt after a training ground bust-up with assistant manager Kevin Bond over the 30-year-old Russian's lack of first-team opportunities.

Another player possibly leaving White Hart Lane is defender Vedran Corluka, with Bayer Leverkusen reportedly in talks with Tottenham to sign the 25-year-old.

If Pavlyuchenko and Corluka leave, it could pave the way for Spurs to sign Germany midfielder Mario Marin from Werder Bremen for a fee in excess of £10m.

It could be a busy day all round at Tottenham, with boss Harry Redknapp planning a late double swoop for Blackburn defender Christopher Samba and winger Junior Hoilett.

Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill is refusing to give up on his chase for Bolton skipper Kevin Davies. The Black Cats boss is poised to make a seven-figure offer for the 34-year-old striker despite being told he was not for sale last week.

The story gets even more coverage in the north east with Sunderland reported to have had a £1.5m bid for Davies turned down, although Bolton boss Owen Coyle has denied that.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is battling it out with Juventus for the signature of Roma's attacking midfielder David Pizarro, 32.

Liverpool striker Andy Carroll, 23, has rubbished reports linking him with a move out of Anfield. Manchester City, however, rejected rumours of a swap involving 27-year-old striker Carlos Tevez for the £35m frontman.

Anfield manager Kenny Dalglish has also hit out at City for "leaking" reports that Liverpool had enquired about a swap deal - and called on clubs to keep their transfer business private. (Various)

Meanwhile, QPR manager Mark Hughes has offered to take Tevez on loan - and help City's title challenge by taking points off their rivals at the top.

Liverpool have told out-of-favour forward Dirk Kuyt, 31, he will not be allowed to quit the club after the Dutchman bagged a late winner against Manchester United in the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, Sweden international goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt, 22, claims he is on the verge of a move to Liverpool.

Borussia Dortmund striker Lucas Barrios, 27, looks set to move to Fulham in a deal believed to be worth around £8.35m, according to media reports in Germany.

However, domestic reports suggest Barrios could move for £7m, but also that his arrival could cast doubt over fellow striker Bobby Zamora's future at Craven Cottage.

The Cottagers are also believed to be in talks to sign 28-year-old Stuttgart striker Pavel Pogrebnyak.

West Bromwich Albion have made a new bid for 27-year-old Birmingham City defender Liam Ridgewell to see off interest from Stoke.

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy will decide over the next 24 hours whether to sign 28-year-old free agent Mark Fotheringham.

Martin Olsson's identical twin, Marcus, has emerged as a surprise Blackburn transfer target. The 23-year-old Sweden international, an attacking left winger, is a free agent having left Halmstads late last year.

Ipswich target Keith Andrews, 31, has reportedly handed in a transfer request at Blackburn. The Republic of Ireland international midfielder spent the first half of the season on loan at Portman Road, scoring nine goals and captaining the side for a spell.

Arsenal are closing in on the £400,000 signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Thomas Eisfeld after holding talks in London. The 19-year-old could complete a move to London in the next 24 hours.

The Gunners are also believed to be ready to make a bid for 25-year-old Watford defender Adrian Mariappa.

Manchester United's 18-year-old midfielder Ravel Morrison is reportedly joining West Ham after being told he is not getting another contract at Old Trafford.

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler, 36, was bought for £337,000 by the Kolkata franchise coached by Peter Reid in an Indian football auction similar to the Indian Premier League cricket auction. Former Chelsea forward Hernan Crespo was the top-priced player at £530,000.

OTHER GOSSIP
Rangers have borrowed £24.4m from London-based group Ticketus against the future sales of season tickets, but owner Craig Whyte has denied that this money was used to fund his takeover, and insists that the arrangement was in place before the takeover. (Daily Record)

Joey James Iversen, the son of former Spurs striker Steffen, has been invited to train with the club despite being only six years old. "Joey's tall for his age and muscular," says his mother Anna. "He has the same powerful legs as his father." Joey will have to wait until he is nine before he can join Spurs' academy.

Midfielder Darren Pratley, 26, has insisted that he could not celebrate scoring for Bolton against Swansea last Saturday - because he still has so much love for his former club.

Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy, 32, has revealed he will probably only play once more for Wales, in memory of close friend Gary Speed.

Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard's training-ground injury may force manager Sir Alex Ferguson to recall under-fire David de Gea for Tuesday's game against Stoke. (Various)

Midfielder Ryan Stevenson, who has joined Ipswich from Hearts, has claimed his monthly wages were paid on time on only four occasions in his 22 months at Tynecastle. (Daily Record)

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has claimed that Manchester City - who are 18 points ahead of the Gunners in the Premier League - are jealous of them because they are still in the Champions League and FA Cup. "Manchester City would love to be in three competitions. They're not. So money is not everything," Gazidis is quoted as saying.

AND FINALLY
Three-time Golden Ball winner Lionel Messi looks set to be the first male footballer to have the cover of Time magazine devoted to his picture. 'King Leo' will adorn the covers of the Asian, European and Oceanic editions, although the US version of the prestigious magazine may elude him.

Story from BBC
We won the L the Feyenoord Jubileum Tournament trophy. Hurrah!

I'd rather we avoided Samba as his only loyalty is to himself.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

That's harsh.

He's been at Blackburn for 5 years. He is 27 and wants to try and win things - the new Blackburn owners have not fulfilled their promises of spending millions on new players and now they're in the shit he wants out. Fair enough!

Either way he's only had 3 clubs in his entire career so I don't think his loyalty can be called into question.

He's very very meh. Ask yourself this...

Would Arsenal buy him? No
Would Chelsea buy him? No
Would ManU buy him? No
Would City buy him? No
Would Liverpool buy him? Yes.

Then why the fuck would we buy him?

Hiya Georgie, You wanna be a Gooner?

Rodellega ? : No thanks, we can and should be looking at better
Adebayor on a contract ? : yes please
Hoillett ? : yeah, why not he'd be good cover for Lennon & Bale, but not at silly money
Samba ? : Is he better than Gallas ? Kaboul ? Dawson ? IMO, no, no & no so I can't see why we want him
Marin ? : Decent player, but where would he play ? IIRC, he's a LW/LCM and that's the domain of Bale & Modric
