Tim Sherwood is keen to focus on the team performance rather than the scoreline after our impressive 7-1 win over Inter in the NextGen Series.

The Club’s Technical Co-ordinator was delighted with our youngsters in what was their first home game of the new Under-19 tournament.

A hat-trick from Tomislav Gomelt and a brace each from Alex Pritchard and Souleymane Coulibaly saw us sweep aside the Italian outfit at Leyton Orient’s Matchroom Stadium and go top of our group, that also includes FC Basel and PSV Eindhoven, who we face in Holland in our next game later this month.

But Tim sees the bigger picture, and said: "It was our group against theirs and it was our day. We won't gloat about the scoreline though because it's all about the performance and we had some outstanding performances out there.

"Massimo Luongo was immense in midfield, as was Jake Nicholson, but Souleymane Coulibaly was unbelievable. He played up front on his own, absolutely battered their two centre-halves and scored two goals.

"Alex Pritchard was great, the two young boys at the back, Kevin Stewart and Milos, the full-backs Daniel Day and Jack Barthram - they were all excellent.

"It's not just about winning football matches at this age, it's about developing footballers and at the moment, we're happy with our performance. We're not gloating about victory, because we know we could be on the end of a defeat. It's about how our lads play, and they all played very well."

Tottenham’s kids appear to be enjoying themselves in the new Under-19 European tournament, the NextGen Series.

After drawing their first game with Basel, they won their second match 7-1 win against Inter Milan and yesterday Spurs headed to Holland to take on PSV.

The Tottenham kids dominated the first half, hitting the woodwork three times and eventually took the lead just before the break through Ivorian wonderkid Souleymane Coulibaly.

The Under-17 World Cup star got on the end of a fine move, also involving highly-rated John Bostock, with a back post volley and produced a somersault to celebrate. Coulibaly must surely be in the mind of Spurs boss Harry Redknapp as the season progresses, despite his tender years.

PSV equalised with a header from a free-kick but Tottenham won the match thanks to a last minute winner from Jack Munns who converted a rebound.

After the game, Tim Sherwood said: “Massimo Luongo was our top man in midfield, we were very good across the back four, Jonathan [Miles] made his saves and overall, we deserved to win. Once again, it was a great experience for these lads.”

Many of these youngsters have been involved in first team action for Spurs, Luongo missed a crucial penalty at Stoke in the Carling Cup last week, and the NextGen Series appears to be going well for Tottenham in its inaugural season.

A good thread. Just such a pity we still don't have involvement in the reserve league. Maybe one day we'll get back into it and stop farming people out on loan after loan after loan.

I dont mind the loans as atleast they are getting first team football, the issue comes with not working with the first team atall/being around spurs so it is harder to slot them in when they come back

That's exactly the problem. If we had reserves on site, so to speak, they'd be readily available. First team football in the Championship is no doubt higher quality that reserve team league standard, but being stuck up in Mansfield will limit your opportunity of getting a place on the bench (or even a starting place) when your actual first team has a handful of injuries. I'd sooner we had them to hand like we used to in the old days when squads were smaller and every individual was pretty much crucial.

You've got your opinion, I've got mine. Never the twain shall meet, as we're both well aware. (But I am right more often than you. :D )

I can see the argument from both sides, I am more in favour of loans to Championship and low end Prem sides a head of reserve team football. But Reserve team football and training using our top facilities and coaches has got to be better than being sent packing to yeovil for a year?
